the best medicine

I have had the unbelievable good fortune to reconnect with my Best Friend from High School. We were quite a pair back then, we moved in together for a short and very entertaining time when we graduated High School. We were just becoming adults then and recognizing in ourselves those essential ingredients we needed to become who we wanted to be. When we were together our "main ingredient" was always laughter, we could make each other laugh with just a look, a phrase or a silly gesture. We lost contact when we stopped living together and I joined the Air Force and she started school. That was 17 years ago. I found and contacted her on MySpace back in April of 2009. Our lives seem to have taken a similar path, we both have two girls, one of which we both chose the name Caitlin/Katelyn, we both have been divorced once, and we both put everyone before ourselves. Finding her again is like a breath of fresh air, we remind each other to do things for ourselves, without feeling guilty, and we still make each other laugh, which is always the best medicine. We know the importance of a solid friendship, that maybe when we were younger we didn't fully realize. I love her and can't wait for our adventures to unfold in the years to come!

all i am

My Mom. Truly the person that strived to keep our family close. She has the sweetest soul. She loves her family and her grandchildren are her world. She has been through more than anyone I know, she survived a massive heart attack and triple bypass ten years ago. She survived a vascular bypass to her leg almost 7 years ago. Her health is not good, to say the least, if it wasn't for the medication she's on she would not be with us. I love her with all I am, she is the one who taught me the important things in life. Everything she has been through she still tries to keep a positive attitude about things. Recently she has been given some devastating news. She will lose one and quite possibly both of her legs. She is trying to digest this, but even still, she just wants to be alive. She is in extreme pain daily, but refuses to take Vicodin all the time, she doesn't want to be mentally impaired, or asleep all of the time. She is a warrior for her life, and does not give up, no matter what. I love you, Mom and Thank you for all you have given me.

heart of hearts

Some people come into your life and they remain forever a part of it. Time passes by in a flash and you move along in your daily routine. Distance is an obstacle but not a deterrent. You remain friends, through marriages, failures, triumphs and time. You know if circumstances were perfect a whole different scenario would have played out, but you don't let that hinder what you have today. I've learned, by losing someone, that you don't lose touch with those friends that you keep in your heart of hearts. You tell them how important they are and what their place in your life means to you. Don't ever let time and space change that.

words to live by.

my sweet girl

Athena Jade, My sweet girl. Most moms want that perfect picture, hair done and the perfect outfit. You won't find those pictures here. My favorites are the ones where hair is flying free and the essence of the moment is captured.

create explore share

I've decided to resurrect my blog that I have neglected (since 2005) and use it to express some of the things that I hold dear to me. I hope the people who find me here enjoy what I have to share.
